Home of the Nautilus, the world’s first nuclear-powered vessel and the first ship to go to the North Pole, The Submarine Force Museum traces the development of the “Silent Service” from the 1700s to more recent Ohio and Virginia class submarines.
Four midget submarines make a dramatic first impression at the museum’s front walk. Once inside, visitors find attractions that include two mini-theaters, superb submarine models, and a full-size repliaca of David Bushnell’s Turtle, which was used in the Revolutionary War. After touring indoors, boarding the Nautilus herself is a highlight of your visit.
The museum’s collections include more than 33, 000 artifacts, 20,000 significant documents and 30,000 photographs, and displays change frequently. It’s a unique experience both kids and adults will enjoy.
Summer hours (through October 31): Daily except Tuesdays, 9am-5pm. Closed Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day. Admission and parking are FREE.
USS Nautilus and Submaine Marine Force Museum are members of Family Fun Mystic Country. Find out more about this association>
