New London, Conn.— The United States Coast Guard Band presents an open-air Labor Day Concert at New London’s historic Fort Trumbull State Park on Sunday, September 2, at 3 p.m. CDR Kenneth Megan leads the Band in this end of summer celebration. The concert is highlighted by the annual performance of Tchaikovsky’s “1812” Overture, which includes cannon-fire provided by The Artillery Company of Newport, Rhode Island.
The program includes a sampling of music by famed American composer, John Williams. The band performs his stirring fanfare “Summon the Heroes” featuring Musician First Class Tom Brown on trumpet, and “Adventures on Earth,” the endearing music from “E.T.” Young and old alike will recognize “Raider’s March” from the popular “Indiana Jones” series. Clarinet Soloist, Chief Musician Chantal Hovendick takes the stage in “Viktor’s Tale,” also by Williams.
