| The Coast Guard Band Welcomes Guest Conductor Dr. Jeffrey Renshaw NEW LONDON, Conn.—Sunday, June 9, at 2 p.m. in Leamy Concert Hall, the Lewis J. Buckley Guest Artist Series continues with acclaimed band leader Dr. Jeffrey Renshaw of the University of Connecticut. The program covers ground from soft, subtle tunes to invigorating classics. The first half features saxophone soloist, Musician 1st Class Greg Case in Kenneth Fuchs’ “Rush, Concerto for Alto Saxophone and Band.” On the softer side are two delightful songs by Ralph Vaughn Williams: “Linden Lea” and “Silent Noon” performed by soprano soloist, Musician 1st Class Megan Weikleenget. The second includes a performance of the intricate and powerful suite from the ballet “The Firebird” by Igor Stravinsky. |
