Blossom’s Delight – Alexander the Great once named a city after his beloved horse that passed on due to old age. The Brown Cow Café followed suit in naming this special blend of sweet and rich butter pecan ice cream, butterscotch chips and vanilla cake crunch after their original brown Jersey cow, Blossom, who also inspired the name of the café itself. Sunflowers for Wishes – July 23 - 31th 2011. In 2003, at the suggestion of a friend, the owners of Buttonwood Farm planted a one acre field of sunflowers. As they began to blossom, they noticed how much the field drew in people from all parts of the region and the ice cream stand soon turned the flowers into the Sunflowers for Wishes fundraiser for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Self-Guided Farm Tours – Grab a cone and the set off to explore the University of Connecticut's animal barns to learn more about the animals the University cares for. Visitors can see dairy and beef cows, sheep and horses. Young animals can be found in the barns at the following times of year: baby foals in the spring, lambs during the entire month of February, dairy calves year-round and beef calves beginning in mid March. Every day visitors can view the UConn dairy cows being milked at 1:00 p.m. at the Kellogg Dairy Center. Currently the farms houses: over 200 Holstein and Jersey cows; 40 brood ewes; 55 Mature beef cattle; 85 horses and 1000 poultry. (The poultry barn is closed to the public.) Where you'll find it: 38. Corn Maze - Each year Fort Hill Farms hosts an annual Corn Maze Adventure! Last year the farm celebrated the new creamery and the debut of The Farmer's Cow ice cream with a “The Farmer's Cow-Lick" corn maze. This year, the farm is once again going all out with a corn maze shaped as the state of Connecticut with a cow grazing in the middle! Meet the DinoMights™ – Nothing goes better with a full belly of ice cream than a romp through The Dinosaur Place’s Dino Trails, where the young and young at heart can encounter life-sized dinosaurs along 1.5 miles of easy walking trails. And if you’re lucky, you may catch a sighting of The Dinosaur Place’s new quartet of adventurers, the DinoMights™! Lady Lava, Ranger Rex, Jurassic Joe and Monty Junior make daily appearances along the trails.
