Three of the Aquarium's resident California sea lions - Coco, Surfer and Boomerang, the playful juvenile - take the stage during daily shows in the Marine Theater. A favorite of all ages, the Marine Theater show is a truly unique opportunity to experience lions of the sea close up and in action!
Kids ages seven and under have a place all their own – our
Children’s Museum. Here, young sailors can swab the deck,
move cargo, cook in the galley, dress in sailor’s garb and even
sleep in ships’ bunks. You can also go fishing, solve puzzles
and learn how to tie your own knot.
Everyone knows about the marine animals here at the Aquarium, but now you can explore and touch sea creatures from millions of years ago! They are waiting to be uncovered by pint-size paleontologists in the interactive exhibit Dig It! Prehistoric Creatures of the Sea.
The Denison PequotseposNature Center offers a variety of interesting weekly and monthly environmental education programs for participants of all ages. Kids can get a close-up view of live frogs, fish, turtles and snakes safely nestled in the museum or take a walk with the parents to see and discover the animals in their natural habitat.
Explore the winter sky from the warmth of our planetarium.
Children ages five and under will especially enjoy “Zoo in the
Sky,” our morning program that uses stories of the animals
of the night sky to journey among the stars. And best yet, all
planetarium shows are free this winter!
DNA, Red Tide and the Sea, an interactive new exhibit, answers all these questions while providing you a look at our oceans on a whole new (microscopic) level.
What good are a sailing ship, lobster boat, and fishing dragger that don’t float on water? Plenty, when they're playscapes! Mystic Seaport’s playscape area was designed just for kids to climb around and explore.
Stay warm on a cold winter day inside our new activity center as you
learn traditional sailor’s skills. Try your hand at rope making, test your
mind as you send coded messages with signal flags and learn how to
raise a sail. Then listen as our chanteyman perform songs of the sea.
