Coffee Shop Cheat Sheet

Ever wanted to know the difference between caffé au lait and a latte? Here's a look at some of the most popular coffee shop drinks to help you in your hunt for that perfect cup.

Cappuccino: A combination of equal parts espresso, steamed milk and milk froth.

Espresso: Espresso is a strong black coffee made by forcing steam through dark-roast aromatic coffee beans at high pressure in an espresso machine.

Americano: A single shot of espresso added to a cup of hot water.

Caffè Latte: A single shot of espresso to three parts of steamed milk.

Caffè au Lait: This traditional French drink is similar to a caffè latte except that it is made with brewed coffee instead of espresso and an equal amount of steamed milk.

Caffè Mocha (Mochachino): A cappuccino or a caffè latte with chocolate syrup/flavoring or powder added.
